Combat without a stamina meter

Steam describes combat without stamina restrictions, with enemy posture and critical strikes at its center. Melee and ranged weapons both have upgrade options.

That changes the resource you watch, not the need to read an enemy. Consider attack recovery, spacing and defensive timing before committing to another hit.

A Shell changes your tools

The eight playable Shells have their own abilities and stories. They are not simply different outfits. Possessing a different warrior can change the way you approach a fight.

The Obsidian skins in the Devout Edition are a separate cosmetic set. Do not confuse buying a skin set with finding the playable Shells in the world.

Exploration is part of progression

The official PlayStation description lists more than 80 dungeons spread through a compact open world. Side paths can lead to equipment, upgrades and additional stories.

Try a branch you have not explored when the main route becomes difficult. The connected layout gives you reasons to return, rather than a requirement to follow one prescribed checklist.

The combat loop is stamina-free, not consequence-free

Steam describes combat without stamina restrictions and emphasizes breaking enemy posture to create critical-strike opportunities. You can continue attacking or dodging without watching a stamina bar, but animation recovery, spacing, enemy tracking, and the timing of your defensive tools still determine whether the next action is safe.

Melee weapons, sidearms, Shell abilities, Harden, guard, dodge, parry, and riposte solve different problems. A useful learning loop is to identify one enemy tell, answer it once, punish briefly, and reset position. Extending every opening into a long string wastes the freedom that unlimited stamina provides.

Shells are builds, not costumes

The eight playable Shells have distinct abilities, memories, and upgrade paths. The Obsidian Shell skins sold with the Devout Edition are cosmetic and do not unlock those warriors. Try an active ability and a defensive option before deciding whether a Shell fits the way you want to approach bosses and exploration.

The Week 1 Update removed the finite limit on Glimpses and Tarcores and added Mether's Severance, which lets Zhirelle reset a Shell and refund all Glimpses spent on it. This materially changes launch-week build advice: experimentation remains an investment, but it no longer creates the same permanent one-playthrough lock-in.

Exploration feeds progression

PlayStation's official description lists more than 80 dungeons in a compact open world. Side paths can lead to Shells, melee weapons, sidearms, Tarstones, bosses, and story material. When an encounter becomes a wall, another region can provide tools that change the next attempt rather than merely adding levels.

The Week 1 Update added Beacons across Fainweald and Mammon that are active only during the day. Older maps remain useful for named launch locations, but they are no longer a complete picture of current navigation. Match a route to your installed build and the current day-or-night world state.

Post-launch defensive changes matter

Riposte damage now scales with enemy health, including late-game, New Game+, and Night Mode. The official patch notes also say riposte invulnerability now lasts through the animation, many recoveries return control sooner, and damage is calculated by the riposte itself to avoid double or missing applications.

Those fixes make a successful riposte more consistent. A visible unblockable warning still calls for another defensive answer, such as movement, guard, or Harden, depending on the attack.
